Most people come to Child1st searching for help for their struggling students because our specialty is designing materials for those who learn most easily through visuals, body movement, song, rhyme, personification, patterns, and other such right-brain-friendly elements. Materials that include these elements are very effective with children who are considered learning disabled in any way, including autistic children, those with dyslexia, ADD, and the like.
While the materials are effective with children with specific learning needs, they're also super preschool-friendly! Children up to age 7ish are in a developmental stage in which the right hemisphere of the brain is rapidly developing. If this is where the growth is occurring, it makes a lot of sense to capitalize on that and use those right-brained elements in concepts we want those youngsters to learn. Even after children pass the age of 7, a great number of them remain visual learners.
Following are some suggestions for reading and math materials that rely on right-brained elements as they introduce left-brained concepts.
